1873 Springfield Carbines

Posted by Michael h. Collins on Friday, 30 September 2011, at 2:25 p.m.

40 years of compiling 73 data is quite an accomplishment and I commend you.Thank you very much for your contribution to trade.

I suppose there are many guys like me stumbling around out there that have some of this stuff and who have never gotton on this Web Sight or any other trapdoor Web Sight before. As I said earlier this is my first time.

Over the years I got in the habit of writing down any rumor or lead that I heard about. In my travels to gun shows, gun shops and general BS sessions I heard many stories. Most of them were dead ends. However, at the end of each day, I wrote a quick note on what I heard and when.I also wrote down who did the talking. Then I filed this slip of paper away in my tin receipe box entitled "Leads". Many years ago and I had forgotten all about it, I wrote down a lead that a fellow supposidly had a 1873 Trapdoor carbine in the 27,XXX range with a long wrist stock. I just went through these old ticklers the other day and found this one. I called this older gentleman and we are going to meet soon and I'll take a look. He said he'd like to sell some stuff. Who knows? Could be a hacked off rifle wth a Marbles front sight soldered on but I'll take a look. I'm excited as usual because he's an old timer and had these guns for quite awhile. Mike
