Steve - I agree with you completely about GIs not mixing up their personal weapon parts if at all possible and I also patina or not have a red flag up over the breach block and would not in anyway consider the carbine as NRA Fine. In my generation weapons turned in at aide stations or by graves registration went back to a forward depot where they striped and rebuilt - there parts were mixed. In my own experience I was issued a S&W in 38 S&W and bought my own 38 special cylinder so I had something useable until I "appropriated" something better from a better equiped brother service arm.
