Hmmm, you have not sold me yet. I have 9 years service and 1 tour in Iraq as a UH 60 Crew Chief / Door Gunner. NEVER in my life would any troop mix and match parts like a breech block or for today's terms a "bolt", upper reciever etc... The thing I have issue with is, once the Starred arms were refurbished I believe they were sent out to State militia or National Guard units. I find it unusal that the Breech would be damaged in sufficint numbers to cause replacement at that level? I am not sure the level of destruction in the Spanish American War coinsides with the number of Starred carbines with 1884 blocks? I agree with Dick, if the patina matches it is probably ok. IMHO it is a red flag. I am not one for arms being as "left the factory" anyway. I shoot all of mine. I still have issue with the lower P mark appearing as being buffed out?
