Tumbling

Posted by Jim S on Saturday, 23 July 2011, at 11:50 p.m.

I am waiting for some larger sizing dies & expansion dies to arive. In the meantime before working up some BP loads I tried to work some smokeless loads while fireforming the brass to neck size afterwards & then use to work up BP loads. I am using a 500gr flat nose or radius nose plainbase bullet sized .459, largest sizer die I have till new ones arive. I tried 23-25gr AA 5744.This is not a realy hot load & is well within TD levels. Some of the 24 gr & all of the 25 gr loads are tumbling & hitting sideways. Would this be an indication that bullet is undersize /

I thought about going down to about 19 or 20 gr & trying that , then thought I may want to wait till my .461 & 462 sizer dies arive before continuing. I have no way of measuring a slug from a 3 groove barrel.

New to Trapdoors , not new to BPCR reloading.

tnx Jim
