I'd go with a reworked rifle stock. The rest of the wood will then have original inletting, contours, patina, etc. A repro will NEVER look like an original. That should also be the most economical path as well.

A favor, could you please advise the serial number? I am the keeper of the (UNDER 50000 ONLY) 1873C registry, which is now up to about 1100 records, and is planned for inclusion (sans any owner info) in the second half of my book. Thank you. If you do not want to list the number publicly, email is fine, but NO xxs!
