Model 1873 Harpoon rifle

Posted by Joe Cook on Wednesday, 13 July 2011, at 6:39 p.m.

I have come across a springfield model 1873 (serial# 12108) that has been outfitted as a harpoon rifle. The barrel measures only 13" and appears to be original. It appears to be in an original case complete with wooden shafts and brass/bronze harpoon heads. After researching various places, I can find no information pertaining to this unique firearm. Any guidance would be appriciated. I would like to learn more about the history of this item.

Sincerely, JC
