For Dick Hosmer

Posted by Fred on Saturday, 14 May 2011, at 9:54 p.m.

Dick, you remember that Sharps rifle on gunbroker that I brought to your attention because I thought it might've been a prototype or back room product at Springfield Armory? It was in 50-70 and had a 35 inch barrel. It just hit me today that what it probably is is one of the first run Sharps rifle conversions at Springfield Armory in 50-70 that has had it's original Springfield forarm and bands removed and has had a new forearm of Sharps design with the Sharps barrel bands and band springs put on the barrel. That's why the forearm wood is so new and doesn't match the worn condition of the Springfield butt stock. The barrel is still a Springfield barrel with its original front sight and rear sight. Don't know why or when it was done, but it sure isn't anything rare.
