Re: 1877 Carbine

The 1877 sights were used for such a short period of time that most of the loose ones encountered are now too nice for the guns on which they could be (re)used. I'm guessing that the M1879 - with its' new windage capabilities - caused WIDE-scale retrofitting.

Add to that the low production, and small survival rate, of arms from that period and you have the ingredients for scarcity. In fact, I'll wager many people have never even heard of an 1877 sight.
