I've been repairing and restoring old guns for several years and a few years ago I started using CA for all wood repairs. It's full name is cyanoacrylate or crazy glue and super glue. I buy mine at the local hobby shop and it comes in thin ,medium, and thick. I use the medium on stocks. The medium does not cure quickly and you have several minutes to get the joint right. It dosn't seem to mind stock oil and if you can clamp the wood tightly together, the glue seam is almost invisible. Of course you do have to be careful getting it on your skin because it will glue you together also. Moisture is what kicks it off and it can be removed with acetone. Use it with care and you will get perfect glue joints.
