Off the top of my head, the cleanout hole was added around 1879, so there are a fair amount of rifle stocks without it. Of course as Fox says, NO carbine stock EVER had that hole.

Some carbine stocks have been new-made, then beat up, and stamped with the rented stamps. One clue is the rear end of the band-spring inlet. Square on the original, round on the new. Hate to mention that, since it is "fixable" - but look anyhow, maybe you will see where the chisel cuts were freshly done. Also look at the inletting for the swivel bar - it should be a PERFECT fit.
