Re: Just a thought

You know, if if I thought it really was a widow or an orphan, I'd probably either tell them what they had, or pass. I've continually counseled against the sale of family guns, and have - more than once - paid more than the asking price on a rifle.

But, when something shows up in open trade I figure it's fair game. If the seller didn't perform their due diligence - tough beans (and I ate a lot of beans during my years of study)! :-)

I have no idea how long my first 26" BoOF Krag was on GB (and IT was close to being correctly labeled) but I suspect it had been up for awhile. The second one, I was on fairly quickly, as I'd been checking much more closely. It had no clues whatsoever in the seller's ID; you had to know from the serial number alone.

A friend of mine (Joe Farmer of "5madfarmers" fame) has three M1880 rod-bayonets, which he likes to portray as "stacked" arms. So, I'm trying to get three BoOfs, at least partly to pull his wire. The third rifle will have to have the correct serial number and an original barrel, and it has to be CHEAP. Some tantalizing near misses out there; I'll almost be sad when I find it - the fun is in the hunt.
