1884 lockplate

Posted by Blaine Clark on Wednesday, 23 March 2011, at 3:34 a.m.

I have a carbine with an 1884 marked lockplate, #40008, and after spending some time looking at the great info here and it appears it is not a Springfield built gun. Not cartouches on the stock but it does have a large V stamped in it with some numbers. The gun is in superb condition in all respects. Does it have any collector value? I guess my question is what percentage is it compared to a "correct" gun?

Thanks in advance for any help!
