John,

The second period was, as I noted in my last,Fourth Quarter 1870. I'm afraid there is no record of when the Starr's were turned in. The only statement that mentions them is Second Quarter 1866 where they are listed as "Cal. .54". However, in the mention of them by Colonel Carrington referenced in my reply to Dick he says " John Donovan was armed with a Colt Army revolver and a Star[r] carbine using a copper cartridge the same as the Spencer carbine...". So the Second may have had conversion carbines in some number... Something to ponder amongst the many other interesting things still to be found out about this period.
