The 1st Model American and the Schofield are two different guns. The American is chambered in either .44 American (aka .44 S&W) or in .44 Henry Rimfire. Serial number #830 is on the list of the 1000 U.S. Americans ordered by the Army within the serial range of 125 to 2199. #830 should be in blue (800 were blue and 200 nickel.) There should be an OWA cartouche on the left grip and Barrel, cylinder and frame should have an A and P marks. They were made 1870-1872.
These US 1st Models, if right, can be quite valuable.
