ernie

I've killed acouple deer with the Lyman 457124 and Lee's 405HB cast soft over 27 gr 5744 for 1300 fps out of my OM. Most any 350 - 420 gr RN of FP at 1200 - 1400 fps will kill deer nicely. I used a Gould 457122 cast of 1 - 20 tin - lead alloy at 1450 fps on one black tail deer and it destroyed way too much meat and made a horrible blood shot mess of the front quarters. Killed the deer nicely though....

However I've a RCBS 45-300-FN-GC that I cast with 50/50 wheel weights/lead or 1-16 tin - lead and load over 30 gr of 2400 for 1750 fps which shows real promise but I've not shot any deer with it yet.

If you want BP loads then the 458124 or 405HB over 70 gr of Goex Cartridge in WW cases with Fed magnum primers does well in my OM also. I prefer a duplex load though of 7 gr 4759 over the primer with 54 gr GOEX Cartridge on top under either bullet. I use my own BP lube of 6 parts beeswax to 5 parts virgin olive oil but SPG works fine for store bought. I use a .4615 H die sizer in a Lyman 450 to size the lube the Lee 405HBs and lube the 457124s with the BP lube but you can hand lube them easy enough, just slower is all. I use Javelina in another 450 with a .459 Sizer for the smokeless sometimes but the BP lube works just as well for them.

All above loads are within "trapdoor level" psi.
