Yes, there were problems. The manual for the Model 1866 Trapdoor noted "should the extractor hook cut through the rim of the shell, and therefore fail to withdraw it, draw the ramrod and drive it out."

And an officer wrote in 1870, "the shell frequently stuck in the barrel after the breechblock was raised, and the rammer had to be used to get it out."

As to it having an effect on the outcome of the Battle of the LBH, my opinion is it had little to absolutely no effect.
