Hi (again) Tom,
And I forgot to address your question about the lack of a cartouche on the Carbine S/N 452669. According to Al's "MODEL 1884 CARBINE PRODUCTION" Table (Page 273 in BOOK II), the gun would have been produced in roughly mid-1889.
Ernie Brandt (my problem son) can pin-point it much closer than that for you.
With best regards,
p.s. And if you are indeed the same Tom Moore, if you would E-Mail me (email@example.com) your Post Office mailing address I will be very pleased to send you a print of that photo I took at the Mansfield, Ohio Civil War Collectors Show last May.
