Metcalfe's Early Prototypes

Posted by Al Frasca on Saturday, 26 February 2011, at 8:20 p.m.

At the military show in Louisville this last Thursday, Glenn Boas called me at home and thought he had found a Metcalfe system that he had never seen before. He told me what it looked like and I said I would call him back when I found some information. Well it was easy to find, it was right on the front page of the Metcalfe chapter in Book I. What he found was the three block leather carrying case for blocks with 8 cartridges. I told him to buy it. It turns out that only two were made. The leather is dirty from age, but the stitching was perfect. The three wood blocks were loaded with wood cartridges just like what you would expect for a patent model. Also, the block attachments are a hybrid. What a great find. He will be writing an article for the Gun Report.
