OK, Dick. Not necessarily a new thought but I agree the thread is tapped out. I didn't write asking, "So, how'd I do?" because I knew how I did and it wasn't good. I had a while ago purchased a "carbine". She's a beauty but I'm afraid the receiver (212XXX) had started out life on a rifle. The cartouche was gone, the stock had been refinished. It looks like a carbine stock. There's no filler in the forearm so it looked good to me at the time. Everything looked kosher behind the lockplate and there is the sliding door on the buttplate. The barrel and sights all look OK but the crown is suspect...certainly does not look like the crown on my file. But otherwise the dimensions of the barrel, muzzle etc look fine. It's just the crown the looks wrong. It's not flat but I just does not look like a trapdoor crown. I wondered how they could maintain the correct carbine barrel dimensions if it were not a carbine barrel. The someone told me it was possible to "re-taper" the barrel. Is that so??
