Thanks Dick. I was just hoping some new revelation may have come about concerning the history of these things.

I'm pretty sure this one is the real thing too. It's having been in the family since the late 1800's I know just about everything that was done to it including my dad blueing it back in the 30's.. I even have a few of the original 50/70 rounds left that where my g grandfathers. My biggest curiosity is how exactly he came to own it. Best sense would be that it was issued to the Texas Militia at some point in it's history. I doubt I'll ever be able to document that connection though..
