I was willed a model 1884 Springfield Trapdoor rifle from a WWI veteran who served in the American Expedition Force in Siberia (probably no connection to the rifle). I am puzzled as it does not appear to have any military marking(s) on it. The serial number is 335424. The stock is dark, and in excellent condition, given it's age. It has no cartouche. Judging by pictures I have looked at here and other places on the internet, this rifle seems to be NRA excellent, but I'm certainly no expert. My question: could this rifle be one never issued to a military organization?
