I just acquired an 1873 model at about the 230,000 serial number range. I bought it from an estate auction sight unseen for $880. The bayonet is about 98%! The rifle stock is correct for the rifle and the cartouche is decent, but not perfect. I have detail stripped it and am using Flitz metal polish to clean up the various parts. The only part I damaged in the process is the hammer screw. It is still very acceptable, but I ordered a replacement anyway. Now, I have a hammer with a square opening frozen to the tumbler behind the lockplate. I have tried a punch in the threaded tumbler hole with a hammer whack, but I can't get it to budge. I have also attempted to use WD40 as well as Liquid Wrench without success. Any suggestions to get the hammer off the tumbler without wrecking either part woulod be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
