Cut down Trapdoor

Posted by K. Weeks on Saturday, 22 January 2011, at 8:46 a.m.

I have a cash straped buddy who wants me to buy his trapdoor carbine. It's serial number in the 578** range and was made in 1875. The stock has an opening in the front were the cleaning rod went. It is not plugged. The receiver is stamped M44 in front of the trapdoor. Is this a home chop job or did the military ever cut down rifles into carbines? I'll see the rifle tonight but so far that's about all I have for info. Thanks
