tracing history

Posted by JaDub on Wednesday, 15 December 2010, at 6:09 p.m.

Upon disassembling the butt plate of my newly aquired `73 arsenal refurb I discovered some interesting history. Written in pencil was "W.H.Bidwell Co b Benton Ia." I`ve been on the web trying to come up with some information on this but havn`t come up with anything concrete yet. Are there any specific record sources that might shed more light on my find?? There was an W.H.Bidwell that was born 1870 and died 1892 on public record that is buried in Manchester Conn. however there is no explaination of death. Another W.H. Bidwell born 1840 died 1918 that was in Co A of the 137th Pa. volunteers buried in Hamlin Pa. It would really add to the mystique of the gun if I could trace it`s course thru history. Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated. Jeff
