The cleaning rod keeper can be easily replaced. You have to remove the rod, then the bands and then the barrel. This will expose the keeper resting in the bottom of the barrel channel. You have to punch out the upper bandspring because the pin on the bandspring holds the keeper in place. Simply drop the new part in place, reinstall the band spring and everything else and you are all done.

Check the classified ads from the link on the main page of this site, and Al Frasca, Ed Kneisly or Red Daugherty undoubtedly have some for sale.

This is so easy to fix that I see no reason to not replace it.
