Re: type of rod?

Posted by John Gross on Monday, 6 December 2010, at 7:04 p.m., in response to Re: type of rod?, posted by Fred on Monday, 6 December 2010, at 6:36 p.m.

I thought I answered the question, but maybe I didn't word it properly. There are three basic types of cleaning rods (not including the bayonet rods). The first type has the flat head. Second type is the same but with a cupped (dished out) head to protect the firing pin. The third type is the Model 1879/1884.

It would appear you have the second type. Maybe other collectors use different terminology in naming these rods, but this is what I am familiar with calling them.

I did err in my first post when I said the change to the second type occurred above sn 50,000. It should be above sn 30,000.
