How about an M88 with SN96453 dated 1891. This is the third 1891 dated M88 with a serial number less than 100,000. The 1891 production year is the year they cleaned house with old receivers. The M88s produced that year have serial numbers in the 100,000 range, 130,000 range, 150,000 range and 230,000 range, as well as 500,000 range. I believe these are left over receivers because if they were rifles that were stripped for parts, then there should be a number of earlier lock plates on the M88s. That is not the case. The stamping on the later locks is unique to them.
