Shooting on Thanksgiving!

Posted by JasonZ in MO on Friday, 26 November 2010, at 12:13 a.m.

First, HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

We had the family at our house again this year. After dinner I broke out my two trapdoors; rifle and carbine. After showing them off to my parents, brother and the rest of the crowd we decided to fire them for the first time. I know for a fact the rifle hadn't be fired in at least 68 years. Despite the overcast and cold front moving in, we set up a first rate target; a 5 gallon bucket at about 70 yards. I have (had) 20 rounds of Blue Star 45-70 350 grain cast lead with 24 grains of H-2400 powder. They fired perfectly in both guns. We took turns burning through the 20 rounds with the general consensus, the rifle fired high and the carbine was real high! The carbine lacks rifling so we didn't expect much from it. Next time we will set up a sheet of plywood and get serious about understanding the sights.

My wife came out and she fired the rifle 3 times and she really liked it. That really helps ‘cause I wanna buy more of'em! (Pete I bet that one comes up in the next lesson!)

I want to thank all of you for helping me get to this day. Odd, everyone was impressed with the rifle but the carbine was just another gun. LOL!!!

Pete, thanks for completing the carbine, its perfect. I'm sending you a picture, check your email.

Pilgram Jason

(oh... the Indians have nothing to worry about if I'm pulling the trigger! The son from the Marines was zeroed in after 2 shots.)
