Forager copy

Posted by JasonZ in MO on Monday, 15 November 2010, at 3:02 a.m.

Larry's post about the officer's model had me looking at the other Springfield's on the collector's Firearms site. I found AL2453 which is described as a forager copy. I haven't yet read or seen an original version so I have some basic questions.

What keeps the barrel attached to the stock without a barrel band? Is there a screw through the stock tapped into the barrel?

Did the foragers fire a standard 45-70 cartridge? I know they made a 45-70 with a wooden bullet case. I found one at a show last week and bought it. Is this the round it would have fired?

Thanks guys!

Jason
