Re: Non-Custer Carbines SN check

I have had a lot of experience removing broken bolts in old John Deere tractors but not a lot of with more delicate items such as the Springfield tumbler. My favorite tool for this job is a set of left handed drill bits. If the offending screw is not rusted too tight when the bit breaks through the bottom of the screw it will sometimes grab and spin the piece out. This worked on 3 of the 4 screws. The firing pin screw was the hard one, imagine that. What I would like to find is a set of Wentworth 26 TPI taps.

My guess is the outposts threw a lot of parts in the trash or were any of these parts sent back to Springfield to be refurbished?
