Re: Non-Custer Carbines SN check

Posted by Dick Hosmer on Monday, 8 November 2010, at 10:08 p.m., in response to Non-Custer Carbines SN check, posted by JasonZ in MO on Monday, 8 November 2010, at 6:56 p.m.

Sorry Jason, and anyone else who might have wondered, my registry covers just "First Model" 1873 carbines, from 1-50000 ONLY!! The latter was chosen as a "round number" - the highest carbine known to me from the early group is 48482.

Don't have my SRS books at hand for the other two, but I do own 452770, which is "right", so the latter number IS at least in the expected range for the last 5000 carbines made in 1889. I can tell you that the other receiver was made in 1888, as it is JUST ahead of the rare Model 1888 "positive-cam" rifles, which begin near 415500.
