This group of carbines falls into the category of what Al has to say in Book 11 on pages 154-156. There are a springling of carbines outside of the numbers that appears uniform in the ones issued to the 7th Cavalry. Nothing is exact, but if you look at the data you can put more reason to this. You have to remember 2000 carbines were issued to the 2d, 3d and 7th Cavalry units. And here is the other problem, he didn't issue them all at once. They were issued over a period of time. Now knowing that, check this against the quarterly reports. Also these letters I'm talking about can be counter checked with the letters from SA. It would have been great if the 7th Cav would have kept better records. and they may be out there, just not found.
