Hello Terry,

My breech block is also the type with the long, deep arch and is THINNED by the hinge so that the top surface is BELOW the centerline of the hinge-pin. But is stamped "MODEL/1870/EAGLE-WITH-ARROWS/US" [NO PERIODS]. And I would have to say that my thumbpiece is the MIDDLE type ("apparently a modified version of the M68 with a slight rounding of the back corner") shown on Page 103. The firing proof is there, but is very difficult to discern. And the rod lock is also the 1870 Samuel W. Porter-patented version.
