Fred,

I acquired my M70 rifle with "MODEL" on the block more than 40 years ago. I didn't like the original stock (too beat up, markings gone, etc.), so I eventually got a correct replacement for it. The replacement (which unlike the minty stock on my M70 without "MODEL" has seen service) has all of the same characteristics of the stock on my M70 without "MODEL" (i.e. three cartoches in correct locations, MAYBE a trace of the script L in box, cut for M68 receiver, 1870 patent keeper for double shoulder rod, and spoon). But since it is not the original stock, this rifle should not be included in any serious study.

Both my M70 rifles have the solid rear barrel band, not the split M68 version.

Terry
