You are certainly very welcome if that information on my M1870 rifle was any help. I didn't want to "muddy the waters" before Dick has his questionnaire put together and distributed, but from your posting it sounded as though I might be able to at least partially answer your questions posted to Terry Walsh. And from all appearances, all of the components of my M1870 rifle have been together for a long time. Al had posted it for sale on his WebSite back in the Spring of 2005 and had called attention to the "656" stamping on the left side of the barrel just in front of the nose of the receiver, much like the serialization of the M1868 rifles and M1869 Type II cadet rifles.
