So this was a three band rifle cut down to two bands and narrowed? So this is definately not one of the original 1500 1866 Short Rifles that ruptured and had their barrels cut and then reconfigured with an M1863 Type I stock that made the two band Model 1866 Short Rifle? These were made in 1870 and 1871. Also could that account for the 1869 marking and the very low serial number? You are the professional, I am just searching for info. The more I read and search the more questions I have. Please bear with me. I am sure what you say is gospil, but I am still a little confused.
