That is a fair (possibly even a bit low) price, but, IMHO, unless you REALLY like THAT rifle, and are truly smitten with the "personal" aspect(s) of the deal, I'd spend some time on wwwDOTgunbrokerDOTcom!

Just, search "trapdoor" - there are usually 6-7 pages to go through, and the market is soft right now. No need to accept pitting and a missing rod. A lot of nice rifles are getting no bids. You could spend a bit more, yet get a MUCH nicer rifle.

Of course, before I bought anything, I'd spring $20 for Poyer's .45-70 book. It will save a lot of grief. North Cape Publications. I'd also be glad to review any GB auctions with you.
