Left side matching numbers, and CW-dated lockplate, are only correct for the Model 1868 Rifle (32-5/8" barrel) and the 1869 Cadet (29-5/8" barrel).

The 1873 block is for an early .45-70, and is definitely incorrect on your rifle.

1868 blocks can be dated 1868 (rare) 1869 (less common) and 1870 (most often found). 1869 blocks are dated 1870 only.

The Model 1870 is often confused with the Model 1868, but it has a short receiver like the .45-70s, and is normally not serially numbered.
