As for the wood being stuck to metal parts: it has been advised to apply lemon oil to the wood/metal juncture and to use a new razor blade or hobby knife to gently follow the juncture with, thereby freeing the wood from the metal. Tight wood/metal joints, if carelessly pulled apart can splinter the wood. Springfield Arsenal did a fantastic job of inletting thr metal parts, unlike today's modern firearm manufacturers. They were tight from day one.
