Hello Pete, Thanks for the effort looking up #14042-- sure sounds like it was originally a rifle. I was aware of that info in the Frasca book. I was just wondering if there was some more recent information out there that might justify putting a M1874 band on a 14000 series carbine. I also have a 26000 series receiver that is in better shape. I will probably use it instead of the 14042 receiver. It was probably a rifle too, but at least it is in the range to have a M1874 band if it had been a carbine.

It dawned on me that I never sent you pictures of the first carbine I built as I had promised. It is configured as a later carbine with 1879 sight, etc. I think it turned out well, in large part due to your help. I'll try to get some pictures taken and email them to you. Bill M.
