Couple of questions about Trapdoor Receiver

Posted by Bill M. on Tuesday, 14 September 2010, at 11:14 a.m.

I just acquired another early Trapdoor action-- this time numbered 14042. I am wondering whether it is (or was) a rifle or a carbine? I noticed from my Frasca book that it falls into a broad carbine range, but I suppose they were making rifles too throughout that range. So I am wondering what sort of weapons are listed in close proximity to 14042?

Also, what is the current line of thinking about 1874 carbine bands with stacking swivels? I know that 14042 predates common usage of the 1874 band, but is there any expectation that some earlier carbines were upgraded with the 1874 band? This does not have to do with an original carbine but an early shooter carbine I am putting together. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks! Bill M.
