Re: Rifle Testing?

You are correct, and I HAVE seen something in print, but do not recall where. Some likely guesses would be:

(1) Ordnance Memorandum #22

(2) One of the annual "Reports of the Chief of Ordnance"

(3) One of the various issues of the "Descriptions & Rules for the Management of the .45 Rifle and Carbine".

IIRC, the boards were 3/4" thick, arranged so as to have a one inch air space between them. This must have entailed a rather large (and "deep") rack, plus the boards must have been fairly good-sized so as to be able to be hit reliably at long range. Too, we must remember they actually used "boards", as there was no plywood.
