Re: For Ernie, Cadet rifle receiver w/ extra holes

Hi Ernie, Thanks for the response. Yes, that was my biggest concern, about going too far and the extractor binding up. This is a first for me. I have never come across a barrel that was just hand tight in the receiver. I thought about putting Loc-Tite on the barrel threads and tighten it by hand as best I could. But I don't know if it would be safe to shoot. I just don't know how tight a barrel is supposed to be. But if it were tightened to specs, it would definately throw things out of kelter. We did shoot this rifle before discovering the loose barrel, and it did fine. But now I am concerned. Glenn and me are kicking around some ideas about what to do. We need serviceable rifles, but don't need anybody getting hurt either. The idea of replacing the receiver has been kicked around, but. The two holes in the receiver are anyone's guess. But I can see no useful purpose for them. They are mostly hidden when the rifle is assembled, and no evidence of screws or modification of the stock in any way at this site to accomodate another part. I am reasonably certain these were drilled and tapped after leaving service, but why, who knows. Anyway, thanks again Ernie. I'll holler if we decide to put another receiver on. Regards, Ken Smith
