SRS lists a total of 851 trapdoors as "WWII DONATION TO US NAVY" with a March 31, 1943 date. I had always assumed that these were likely to be ones subsequently converted for line throwing use.

I was recently offered one of the rifles listed (95520) and the owner's photos show it to be a M1877 barreled action with untouched slotless sight screws holding the M1879 rear sight, solid front sight, etc. The stock is a standard M1884 stock with legible 1886 caryouche, grooved trigger and lower band with notch for Buffington sight.

Overall condition is about 50-60%, maybe better with hammer screw missing and some minor boo boos. No idea what he wants.

If anyone is interested in getting this one, I will be glad to put you in touch with the owner, but I thought the configuration of the "Navy Donation" rifle might be of interest to others.
