Re: Springfield Trapdoor Serial Number

Posted by Dick Hosmer on Saturday, 21 August 2010, at 9:17 a.m., in response to Springfield Trapdoor Serial Number, posted by Kent Loosemore on Saturday, 21 August 2010, at 8:18 a.m.

I'd expect it to be a carbine, with 22" barrel, and sling ring on left side. Have no data on that exact number, but 736 was in Troop B, 10th Cavalry, in 1875.

While it should NOT be inferred that usage was the same for 738, most guns in that serial range are carbines. If unaltered, they have significant value, perhaps $3000 or so.
