Bud, The only carbine that I know of that has a barrel band location similar to your descrs the 1886 Experimental Carbine. You can go to, www.picturetrail.com/sfx/album/view/348764 for a picture of that carbine. The Frankford Arsenal refurbished a large number of trapdoor rifles and carbines. The stock markings were removed from sanding and scraping and were not replaced. Regards, Jim
