Bud, The punch mark that I was describing was on the left side of the receiver across the barrel/receiver joint from the small R and line on the barrel. I assumed the line and punch mark, on the left side were barrel alignment marks on the carbine that I saw. Anyway, your gun must be different than the one that I saw. I have a 1884 rifle with the X on the bottom of the receiver. Don't know what the X represents. Regards, Jim
