Bud, I have checked the SRS books for your SN 379764. That SN was not found. There were a couple of serial numbers close to yours: 379751 84C 073196 SGT H. W. BIVENS TROOP C 10th CAV., 379756 84C 040887 SA(Targeted). You mentioned, in your post that on your carbine there is a small R at the barrel/receiver joint on the left side. Can you look at this closely with a magnifying glass to see if there is a very small line under the R, on the left side of barrel, and a very small punch mark on the receiver next to the line on the barrel. I have seen a carbine with those barrel alignment marks before. I asked about these marks before on this web sight and was told by a very knowledgeable person that these marks were not by Springfield. Hopefully, you will get other comments on this. Regards, Jim
