It's relatively simple to reload the 45-70 using black powder. Buy Pat Wolf's book relating to the trapdoor and how to load the cartridge. I load 70 gr. Goex 3f under a 500 gr. 1-20 mix round nose lead bullet. The powder charge should be compressed before seating the bullet. I use a faint crimp on the case mouth. I also use a 24 inch homemade drop tube to get the BP in the case. I believe Lee makes a kit in a small box to load 45-70. No press or dies are used with that. Check out Midway USA for BP items. Shooting your trapdoor is really fun. It shouldn't be a 'wall hanger'.
