Bob

I hope you are shooting "Cowboy Action" rounds in your TD. It sounds as if you are shooting off the shelf stuff meant for Modern weapons.

Shooting modern ammunition in a Trapdoor that is not loaded for them is not a good idea.

You may be one of the lucky ones that gets away with it but I would not want to be your insurance agent.

Hand loading to the correct specs. is the way to go. You can load Smokeless rounds with 405 to 500 grain bullets with great results.

Another factor to consider is the actual bore diameter. 45-70 bullets can be found from .458 to .461 dia.

I have found factory rounds tend to vary all over the map in diameter. If the bullet cannot grab the lands because it's too small your accuracy will suffer. If it's too big, same thing happens.

Ernie
